PB Percasi Appoints Merry Riana as Indonesian Chess Ambassador

The Executive Board of the Indonesian Chess Association (PB Percasi) appointed Merry Riana as the Indonesian Chess Ambassador. Merry Riana was officially inaugurated by the General Chair of PB Percasi, GM Utut Adianto and witnessed by a number of PB Percasi administrators, including Chair of the Board of Trustees Eka Putra Wirya, Deputy General Chair Ichsan Soelistio, Chair of PERCASI DKI Jakarta Province Hardiyanto Kenneth and Chair of the BPK Penabur Foundation Adri Lazuardi.

"Thank you to Percasi for the trust given to me to become the Indonesian Chess Ambassador. This is an honor and a big responsibility that I accept with great joy and humility," said Merry Riana at the Checkmate Area, Bekasi.

Merry said that his journey with chess began in 2021 when he met the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of PB Percasi, Eka Putra Wirya, who is also the founder of the Utut Adianto Chess School (SCUA). On that occasion, the figure who is often nicknamed the Million Dollar Woman was able to get to know more closely the world of Indonesian chess, as well as meet directly with the country's best Grand Masters, namely Grand Master Utut Adianto, Grand Master Irene Kharisma Sukandar, Grand Master Citra Dewi Ardhiani, and Grand Master Sean Winshand. "The more I get to know them, the more amazed I am, and the more I love the world of chess," he added

Not only that, Merry Riana's second child, Alvian Mark Liu, also has a great interest in chess. Alvian intensively studied chess at SCUA, actively participating in various tournaments. In fact, on various occasions, Alvian was able to learn directly from the Grand Masters at SCUA.

"I saw for myself how chess changed his way of thinking, trained his focus, patience, courage and self-confidence. This extraordinary opportunity makes me believe that chess can have a big impact, not only for my child, but for millions of other Indonesian children," explained Merry Riana.

Merry emphasized that his presence as an Indonesian Chess Ambassador is not merely the role of parents supporting their children, but also a personal commitment to encourage the development of the sport of chess so that it becomes better known, loved and utilized by Indonesia's young generation. For him, chess is the best means of preparing the Golden Generation of 2045. In the midst of rapid developmentartificial intelligence(AI), chess is believed to be a learning platform to train children to think critically, design strategies, manage emotions, maintain discipline and focus, as well as foster sportsmanship.

"We live in the era of AI which makes many things easier, but on the other hand makes many people lazy to think. This is where chess plays an important role. Let's make chess not just a sport, but a movement to create a golden generation for Indonesia. Because every small step on the chess board today is a big step towards the future of our nation," he concluded.

This inauguration was a historic moment because for the first time PB Percasi appointed an ambassador to introduce the sport of chess to the wider community. With her track record as an Entrepreneur, Investor, Content Creator and Special Staff to the Coordinating Minister, Merry Riana is considered capable of embracing various levels of society.

"Chess is already famous because it is one of the oldest games in the world. With Mrs. Merry, it is hoped that chess can be closer and more relevant in various circles and PB Percasi is expected to become stronger," concluded the General Chairperson of PB Percasi, Utut Adianto.
