PB Percasi pointing Merry Riana as Indonesian Chess Ambassador

The Executive Board of the All Indonesia Chess Association (PB Percasi) appointed Merry Riana as the Indonesian Chess Ambassador. Merry Riana was officially inaugurated by the Chairperson of PB Percasi, GM Utut Adianto and witnessed by a number of PB Percasi officials, including the Chairman of the Board of Trustees Eka Putra Wirya, Deputy Chairperson of Ichsan Soelistio, DKI Jakarta Provincial Percasi Chair Hardiyanto Kenneth and Chairman of the BPK Penabur Foundation Adri Lazuardi.

"Thank you to Percasi for the trust given to me to become an Indonesian Chess Ambassador. This is an honor and great responsibility that I received with joy and humility," Merry Riana said at the checkmate area, Bekasi.

Merry recounted his journey with Chess starting in 2021 when he met the Chairman of the PB Percasi Board of Trustees, Eka Putra Wirya who is also the founder of the Utut Adianto Chess School (SCUA). On that occasion, the figure who is often nicknamed a million dollar women can get to know the world of Indonesia, as well as meeting directly with the best grand masters in the country, namely Grand Master Utut Adianto, Grand Master Irene Kharisma Sukandar, Grand Master Citra Dewi Ardhiani, and Grand Master Sean Winhand. "The more I know them, the more amazed I am, and the more I love the chess world," he added.

Not only that, Merry Riana's second child, Alvian Mark Liu also had a great interest in chess. Alvian intensively pursued chess learning in Scua, to actively participate in various tournaments. In fact, on various occasions, Alvian can learn directly from the Grand Masters in Scua.

"I see for myself how chess changes his way of thinking, training focus, patience, courage, and trust. This extraordinary opportunity makes me confident, chess can have a big impact, not only for my child, but for millions of other Indonesian children," said Merry Riana.

Merry asserted, his presence as an Indonesian chess ambassador was not merely the role of parents who supported their children, but also personal commitment to encourage the development of chess sports to be increasingly known, loved, and utilized by the young generation of Indonesia. For him, chess is the best means in preparing the golden generation of 2045. In the midst of the rapid developmentArtificial Intelligence(AI), Chess is believed to be a forum for learning to train children to think critically, design strategies, manage emotions, maintain discipline and focus, as well as grow sportsmanship.

"We live in the AI ​​era that facilitates many things, but on the other hand makes many people become lazy to think. This is where chess holds an important role. Let's make chess not just sports, but a movement to print the Indonesian golden generation. Because every small step on the chess board today is a big step towards the future of our nation," he concluded.

This inauguration became a historic moment because for the first time PB Percasi appointed an ambassador in introducing chess sports to the wider community. With his track record as an entrepreneur, investor, content creator as well as the Special Staff of the Coordinating Minister, Merry Riana is considered capable of embracing various levels of society.

"Chess is already well known because it is one of the oldest games in the world. With Ms. Merry, it is hoped that Chess can be closer and relevant in various groups and PB Percasi is expected to be stronger," concluded the Chairperson of PB Percasi, Utut Adianto.
